This might provide a short term relief but the long standing structural problems of the "Club Med" members still stand.Providing more liquidity and lending to the solvency and productivity problems of the PIGS cannot help. The Euro and and the Asian markets are up on the news of the Fund . The markets would have shown a dead cat bounce anyway after the fall of the last week. However the EU leaders would have been better served by drawing out a roadmap whereby their structural problems could have been solved.

I beg to differ.

Everyday small-scale corruption as you note is indeed seen here in Greece as a necessary evil- to help oil the rusty wheels of the public service but the economy too - but the vast majority of people do not agree with it and wish to change it! It is certainly not ingrained in our way of life.

But this does not in any way explain the economic disaster of the past few neo-liberal years. In just a few years the public service was bloated with over 35% more "chums" with no job description but taking home a salary, by "golden boys" raking in huge salaries and creaming off anything they could get their hands on and by shameless huge scale corruption by the ministers and their cronies. These are all under criminal investigations now. Just to give you a sense of scale of the governmnetal corruption, in 2008, Karamanlis even closed parliament 1 month early in a bid to cover his ministers that had been embroiled in the huge Siemens scandal and bogus land swaps for a monastery.. Just look at the numbers and you'll realise that the economic situaiton 6 years ago was nowhere near a danger zone..

No, corruption is not endemic in Greece and we certainly know better and wish better. And we aim, with sacrifice, to get there. And yes, we do want very much to see those bastards that got us here, pay for it!

Very innovative and creative way to express and explore ideas, but I still feel that the efficiency of technique of visual arts used in this sleek production has an upper hand than effective delivery of subjective contents of Zizek's arguments. His categories of analysis (for instance. the idea of image as new "Reality", use of political lexicon (of left, right and centre variety) does not seem very convincing. As one shifts from one set of images to another one even forgets what was even said in the previous encounter. One obviously here tends to move with images. In trying to verbally encounter the visual tour de force of contemporary reality, I feel Ziziek actually gives in more than he is able to take hold of.

The problem with left intelligentia (Zizek included) is that it is hopelessly obsessed with an " insider epistemology" of sorts (exemplified by new and old (even some novel) phrases like "little bit liberal", "state socialism", "old leftists", "capitalist facist", popular democratic, :authoritarian capitalist, ad infinitum) that has not only lost its generl descriptive, explanatory and analytical power in relation to broad mass of people, but also much less finds any agreed meanings even among different shades of leftists themselves. Uses of this kind of words is very contingent, often adopted to dictates of convenience and is some kind of festish even.

There is obviously here disconnect between the language, imagery and symbolism that is used to describe the percived reality of the world and how one actually understands, represents and sees the reality of world. It is this void of meaning that needs to be concretely addressed and one that we (both winthin and outside left) are failing to concretely address.

Wow... I haven't seen a Carolee Schneeman video in a long time. I worked on one of her projects in Chicago in 1968 and had a great time.

Then she more or less disappeared. What happened to her?
